What Is Epithalon?
Epithalon, also spelled Epitalon, is a lab-made peptide containing four amino acids. It is studied for how cells change as they age, including changes to the protective ends of chromosomes.
How Does It Work?
Chromosomes hold DNA. Their ends have protective sections called telomeres, which can shorten as cells divide. Researchers have examined whether Epithalon changes the activity of telomerase, an enzyme involved in maintaining those ends.
Why Is It Studied?
Experiments in cultured cells let scientists measure telomere length, enzyme activity, and how many times a cell population divides. These measurements help investigate cell aging; they do not establish that a compound extends a person's life.
